Morrow-Howell, Halvorsen appointed to organizations for older adults

Nancy Morrow-Howell and Cal J. Halvorsen, faculty members at the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis, have been appointed to serve on local organizations that support older adults.

Morrow-Howell, the Betty Bofinger Brown Distinguished Professor of Social Policy and co-director of the at the Brown School, has been named to the board of directors of the St. Louis City Area Agency on Aging. Funded through federal, state, local and private sources, the agency coordinates community-based services for older adults and their caregivers in the city.

She also has been appointed as a commissioner on the St. Louis County’s Older Adult Commission. The commission advises the county executive and County departments on matters relevant to older adults throughout the county. It provides guidance on policies, operations, programs, events, and services that advance the goals of an age-friendly community.

Halvorsen, an associate professor and senior fellow at the Friedman Center, recently was sworn in as a member of the St. Louis Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council. In that role, he will support the agency鈥檚 work and services for older residents.

He was joined for his oath by Anneliese Stoever, director of the St. Louis Area Agency on Aging and a 2003 graduate of the Brown School鈥檚 Master of Social Work program. Stoever has supported numerous practicum students over the years, including Halvorsen during his placement in 2006鈥�07.

鈥淚t feels especially meaningful to be stepping into this work alongside her now,鈥� Halvorsen said.
